Mobile Video as a Service (VaaS) solutions leader attracts Canadian broadcaster to the world of mobile video content
TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 28, 2010) -
OUTtv, the gay and lesbian specialty broadcaster in Canada, has turned to mDialog to build and power their multi-show iPhone app. mDialog was selected by the Vancouver based OUTtv as their iPhone technology partner based on the power of their mobile video platform.
The OUTtv iPhone app utilizes mDialog's proprietary Dynamic Video Ad Insertion technology. This allows OUTtv to insert video ads into their iPhone app's video programming, all in real-time. Dynamic Video Ad Insertion allows OUTtv to traffic ads using geo-location, frequency capping and time of day targeting; OUTtv can now provide ads that are most relevant to the OUTtv audience on the move.
Additionally, the app enables mobile viewers to access video episodes of popular on-air programs, view OUTtv's primetime schedule, and connect more closely with their favourite shows through such features as trivia, commenting, and Twitter.
OUTtv is taking advantage of geo-targeted video ad delivery with the launch of an ad campaign, featuring a major auto industry brand that targets two geographical regions: audiences in the Vancouver area are delivered ad creative with a regional message, and another video ad is presented to the rest of Canada.
The mDialog offering takes full advantage of the latest mobile video capabilities-including HTTP Adaptive Video Streaming technology-that provides mobile audiences with an unsurpassed mobile video experience.
"Engaging our audience across multiple platforms is a driving factor behind our current media strategy," said Brad Danks, CEO, OUTtv. "Streaming our video programming to our audience on the iPhone is the next logical step and mDialog helped us make it happen. The opportunity to provide local, geo-targeted advertising is very compelling for us."
The new OUTtv app also represents a number of 'firsts' for the iTunes store: it's the first Canadian multi-show app, and the first app featuring gay and lesbian video programming.
"More and more broadcasters are interested in the mDialog platform," explains Greg Philpott, Founder and President. "They're seeking ways to bring their growing video libraries to mobile audiences and to integrate that process with their current broadcast workflow. Our ability to take full advantage of HTTP Adaptive Video Streaming and to offer dynamic video ad insertion gives broadcasters a more effective way of connecting with mobile viewers and appealing to advertisers. It just makes sense."
The OUTtv app is now available for download in the Canadian iPhone App Store; it currently features four shows from the broadcaster's primetime schedule with more shows set to be added in the future.

mDialog™ Brings New Video Ad Delivery to the iPhone App Revolution
Global leader in mobile video delivery offers a turnkey solution for media publishers and advertisers on the iPhone
Chicago, IL - September 1, 2009 - Established as an industry leader in portable social video technology, mDialog announced today at Ad:Tech a bold new step by offering media publishers and advertisers a complete Video as a Service (VaaS) solution for managing and delivering video content with ads to the iPhone/iPod touch owner.
The mDialog Platform is now capable of dynamically inserting geo-targeted video ads into a VOD or live video stream by taking advantage of the latest capabilities of the iPhone-notably, Apple’s new HTTP Adaptive Video Streaming technology-and brings to market previously unavailable features that advertisers, media publishers and the iPhone/iPod touch audience will soon find indispensable.
For media publishers, HTTP adaptive video streaming technology allows video content to load faster and adjust in quality in real time according to network strength, thereby boosting the iPhone user experience-and the mDialog offering is one of the first to exploit the full capabilities of this technology.
For advertisers, the mDialog platform includes geo-targeted dynamic video ad insertion-a unique proposition that no other VaaS provider can currently match. The ability to dynamically insert video ad content based on the actual location of the iPhone, integrated with DoubleClick, allows advertisers and marketers to engage iPhone users like never before.
mDialog’s reengineered video management console means that publishers and advertisers can easily traffic geo-targeted ads to their iPhone apps. The publishers’ iPhone app can either be powered by mDialog’s White-Labeled iPhone offering or their existing app, highlighting the flexibility of mDialog’s iPhone Video Platform. Additionally, they can select the weighting and placement of ads in real time, including mid-roll-a feature currently unavailable anywhere else in the marketplace.
“Video publishers wanting to reach the all-important iPhone owner in a compelling way have hurdles to overcome, including VOD, live streaming, video codecs, CMS servers, CDN and Ad Server integration-the mDialog platform removes those hurdles,” says Greg Philpott, President and Founder of mDialog.” Our interactive white-label iPhone offering, branded around the publisher, is managed through our easy-to-use platform that allows publishers to quickly update videos, set release dates, create quizzes or games and, of course, create campaigns."
Over the past two years, mDialog has built a reputation as a leading innovator in VaaS for the iPhone/iPod touch owner; this track record has led to the formation of partnerships with industry-leading firms such as Apple and Amazon. Today, mDialog is announcing two new partnerships to better serve its customers-with Akamai, the world’s leading Content Delivery Network provider and DoubleClick, the Ad Network used by top media publishers and advertisers everywhere.
With the release of the new mDialog Mobile Video Platform, the company looks forward to providing advertisers and publishers with the ability to actively participate in the iPhone app revolution.

mLoader™ cuts H.264 video encode/upload times in half
Apr 22, 2009 08:51AM EDT
mDialog™ partners with Elgato to make video encoding faster than ever
(LAS VEGAS - April 22 2009) Just in time for NAB, the biggest gathering of video broadcast professionals in North America,mDialog™, the leader in portable social video technology, will launch a Beta of its new mLoader™ for Mac OS. Developed in partnership with Elgato Systems, the new Mac version of mLoader takes full advantage of Elgato's new Turbo.264 HD hardware accelerator. The mLoader Beta is available for free download at http://www.mdialog.com/mloader.
"We developed a Turbo.264 HD accelerated mLoader in response to overwhelming demand from our members," says Greg Philpott, founder and president of mDialog. "Because we're a MPEG-4/H.264 platform, integrating our software with Elgato's award-winning hardware was an obvious solution for the professional video publisher who wants to radically reduce the time it takes to transcode video to the MPEG-4 H.264 standard."
When used in tandem with Elgato's easy-to-use USB-based accelerator, mLoader rapidly encodes three MPEG 264-4/H.264 versions of your video, each optimized for playback on mobile, web and HD devices. During initial testing, the mDialog team has seen performance increases in the range of 40% to 60%, and in some cases, has even achieved faster than real-time HD encoding.
"We started mDialog with a core principle that, if you want to get your HD video into the cloud and ready to play on all screens, it just makes sense to encode on the desktop and not in the cloud," says Philpott. "Why even attempt to try and upload a multi-gigabyte file only to have it wait in a queue to crunch it cloud-side?"
Just by downloading the mLoader H.264 Beta for free from mDialog.com and inserting the Elgato Turbo.264 HD accelerator in the USB slot, the video encoding process is made even quicker. Elgato Systems is the home of the award-winning EyeTV software, the world's leading software to watch, record, and edit SDTV and HDTV on the Mac.
"Now that Turbo.264 HD can be used directly from within mDialog's mLoader, it's quicker and easier than ever to make your video available on all screens," says Adam Steinberg, Director Product Line Management at Elgato. "It's an indispensable combination for broadcast and production professionals who need speedy encoding for iPod, iPhone, Apple TV, and the web."
